Serge Melnyk podcast series is excellent for beginners, as he speaks slowly in English to introduce Chinese words or phrases. CSLPOD (Chinese as Second Language Podcast) instead is totally in Chinese, and more suitable for those who had studied Mandarin (part time) for 2 years or more.

Finding Chinese speaking/chatting partners :
If you are good with English, it’s rather easy to find Chinese language partners from China who are willing to practise conversing with you. It’s give and take situation, you teach him/her English, s/he teaches you Chinese. Or if you know 汉字you can just chat through MSN Live Messenger. But for that, online translator Babelfish might be necessary.
