Thanks to Ryou Takehito, now I know how to play Shogi
. And the best part is, I dont think it is too different from chess, and if that is true I suppose I could skip some learning process. However some very distinct rules such as dropping the captured pieces and promotion when entering opponent’s base for all pawns, bishop, rook, lance and knight are very new to me – but then again, the nature of all board games are the same, it’s all about reading ahead and imagining, with faithfulness to the fundamentals.

Haha only four. I forgot many of chess theories already, having left it for few years. By the way, dont be turned off by the characters on shogi pieces, they are not hard to remember ! The game is fun and challenging too. I only know two Malaysians who play Shogi, one is named Voon a.k.a Xinwen, another is surnamed Voon a.k.a Ryou Takehito. But you can get a lot of opponents in Malaysia if you come to Japan Club, and play against the Japanese club members there.
Lastly, Learn Shogi !.

Sounds awesome. I think the dropping of pieces is like a version of chess we used to play – double chess…remember? But definitely something I would like to learn. But, no gang la here…plus I rather the human touch than playing with computers/over cyber space…huhuhu
double chess.. forgot about that.
i remember the joy of playing it
shogi is interesting. i think you can be good in it, as you were a chess player who grabbed all Female awards.
certainly playing with people face-to-face is better than online. i most likely will develop in shogi very slowly, i dont plan to do any studying or to even play on the internet. One or two games on the weekends are enough.
Come back Malaysia, I’ll bring you to Japan club.
Be sure to come to JC so I can teach more people to play Shogi. WAHAHAHA!
PS: Heard that you beat Xinwen. Hahaha. Looking forward to play a hirate (even) game with you this saturday. =)
Haha… I’m sure Xinwen didn’t want to crush a beginner for the sake of “inspiring”. Haiszz..
That girl Jueneke told me she wanted to learn Shogi as well. But I made her promise that Shogi wont sway her away from Go.
LOL
sounds good man…but i dunno whether i got the motivation to learn it here. lemme find out whether there’s anyone who plays in london – do you know any?
